The customer is running an ERP based application with the infrastructure on-premise and the hardware is nearing end of life. Also, the overall migration journey was to ensure zero impact on the current system. Hence looking for increased agility to meet business needs, efficient scaling of infrastructure, technology evolution, cost effective an maintenance and support of the infrastructure.

Builder.ai was chosen by Cloudnine  to migrate and set up the infrastructure on AWS Cloud in accordance with AWS best practices. In on-prem infrastructure CloudNine had some preliminary concerns regarding scalability and server responsiveness and AWS has been extremely helpful in solving these issues. 

Below were the aspects of the solution:

• For better network connectivity with the physical data center, Builder.ai deployed the VPN tunnel in AWS VPC.

• It is a windows based infrastructure, terminal servers, Application servers and Domain Controller were hosted on EC2 in Mumbai region.

• In order to maintain the High Availability, Builder.ai implemented ALB(Application Load Balancer) on the top of application servers.

• AWS SMS (server migration service) was used to migrate the VMs from VMware to AWS.

• Database(MS-SQL 2014 Standard Edition) was implemented on EC2, as the customer required the native features such as reporting. This solution addressed the high latency performance issue while generating reports from the MS-SQL on-prem servers.

Problem Statement

The customer currently runs their stack in a legacy on premise datacenter. The system was in place for a while but needed a technology refresh.
Upon assessing the current stack, the cost and complexity of refreshing it was significant.

We also estimated that it would take several months to raise the necessary purchase orders and approvals to acquire new hardware.

Approach

The customer indicated that they had no major concerns or issues with the current on premise architecture. Given the time constraint with their hardware nearing end of life, we decided to proceed with a  “Lift and Shift” approach as much as possible.
